TAX DEPARTMENT

The Tax Collector is responsible for the collection, both current and delinquent, of property taxes, local improvement assessments, and other municipal charges including sewer utility payments.

Taxes are due quarterly on the following dates:

  • February 1
  • May 1
  • August 1
  • November 1

A ten-day grace period to the 10th of the month is allowed, after which interest is charged from the first day of the month in which payments are due. If taxes are not paid by the due date interest is charged on the open balance.

  • Mailed to the Borough of Merchantville:

  • In person at the Borough office during regular business hours:

  • Or after business hours, payments can be put in the Black lock box in the front of the Borough office

Taxpayers are urged to read all of the information contained on the front and the back of their tax bills. Please note that according to New Jersey State Law, failure to receive a tax bill does not exempt a property owner from payment of taxes.

If you are mailing a check to pay your taxes, please be certain that you are paying the amount for the correct quarter. If you would like a receipt, please send the entire tax bill with your check & self-addressed, stamped envelope. Your bill will be receipted and mailed back to you. If you do not desire a receipt, then just mail the property stub and check or place in the drop box.

SEWER DEPARTMENT

Merchantville-Pennsauken Water Commission

The Merchantville-Pennsauken Water Commission is a government entity separate from the Borough of Merchantville. They are a dedicated regional utility supplying water and whose charges are NOT in our annual tax sale. You must contact the Commission directly in order to ascertain their water tax lien, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40:62-141 which remains primary since it is not in the control of the Borough government. For Certification of those liens, payments, or other questions, contact MPWC Customer Service at

(856) 663-0043.

“. . . all persons applying for a certificate showing municipal or other liens against property in such municipality, that the applicant must apply to the commission to ascertain the amount of water rents or other charges due to the commission, which are by law made a lien upon the premises covered by the certificate.”

LIHWAP

The State Low Income Household Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP) can help you pay arrears for your water and sewer bills. The program ay also be able to help address tax liens due to water and sewer arrears. To get more information and apply, go to waterassistance.nj.gov or call NJ211.

CCMUA

Property owners are required to pay the Camden County Sewer Authority (CCMUA) for the County Regional Wastewater Treatment System.
