The Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) meets on the first Thursday of every month at 6:30pm in Council Chambers on the second floor in Borough Hall, located at 1 West Maple Avenue, Merchantville, NJ 08109.

The Borough has two locally designated Historic Districts – – the B1 and B2 Zoning Districts.   The HPC reviews certain activities, including:

(a)  The demolition or removal of any building or structure defined as a dwelling unit located anywhere in the Borough;
(b)  The demolition or removal of any building or structure located anywhere in the Borough (regardless of whether it is a dwelling unit) having a building footprint of 300 SF or more.
(c)  The demolition of an Historic site or improvement within an Historic District.
(d)  The relocation of an Historic Site or an improvement within an Historic District
(e)  A change in the exterior appearance of an Historic Site or of any improvement within an Historic District by addition, alteration or replacement.
(f)  Any new construction of a principal, or accessory structure on any Historic Site in any Historic District.
(g) Any replacement, alteration in or addition of signs, shutters, outdoor displays, fences, hedges, awnings, off-street driveway and parking materials or exterior lighting for an Historic Site or an improvement within an Historic District.
