Merchantville transforms to Monsterville for a month of Halloween tricks and treats!
Merchantville is the place to be for Halloween. Boasting the perfect mix of tree-lined streets, beautiful Victorian homes, and residents with a serious passion for all things creepy. Add in the fall colors and the small borough is a recipe for a picture-perfect Halloween town. In 2015 a group of residents campaigned for Merchantville to fully embrace its affinity for creepy and Monsterville was born. Made official by an adopted ordinance, Merchantville officially changes its name to Monsterville every October.
The tight knit Merchantville community has once again come together to offer a full slate of Halloween events for all. Business owners, residents and Borough council all have a role to play in the month long celebration of the mysterious and frightening. From the annual Merchantville School haunted house to Spooky Story Times and a Zombie Run, Monsterville has something for everyone to enjoy.
On Oct. 30 and 31 tour the Borough and find this year’s entries to the Haunts of Monsterville home decorating contest. Each year, Merchantville residents go all out creating elaborate scenes to transform the quiet Victorian town into a hauntingly frightful destination. Tour the town and vote for your favorites Oct. 30 and 31. Maps of participating homes are available on the Borough website, inside Borough hall and at participating businesses beginning Oct. 23. Winners receive the coveted Golden Broomstick, and most importantly, bragging rights through next Halloween. Register your home or business here, or inside Borough Hall!
New to the Monsterville lineup in 2023, the Monster Mash Bash on October 14. Step into the Merchantville Community Center and be transported to a Victorian era haunted mansion. Live music from local hero band Candy Volcano provides the perfect vibe for ghouls to dance the night away. Enjoy signature drinks by the Blue Monkey Tavern or step into the psychic’s room for a tarot reading. Don’t miss the party of the year in Monsterville, space is limited. Monsterville’s Zombie 5k hits the street on October 28 at 10am. Runners and walkers alike will don their best costumes to creep and crawl their way through the Borough. Following the race, participants are able to trade their racing bib for a beer at Eclipse Brewery.
On Tuesday, Oct. 31, the Borough welcomes thousands of trick or treaters as they take to Merchantville’s picturesque streets in search of Halloween loot as another month of Monsterville draws to a close.
